One of the truths of the Bible that I embrace with trembling joy is the truth of God’s supremacy in all things. My life mission statement, and the mission statement of the church I served for 33 years is this: We exist to spread a passion of the supremacy of God in all things for the joy of all peoples through Jesus Christ.
제가 떨리는 기쁨으로 끌어안고 사는 진리 중 한 가지가 바로 하나님의 절대적인 주권입니다. 제 인생의 사명선언서와 33년간 섬긴 우리 교회의 사명선언문은 다음과 같습니다.
“우리는 모든 백성이 예수 그리스도로 인한 기쁨을 누릴 수 있도록, 모든 일 가운데 절대적인 주권을 가지고 계신 하나님에 대한 열정을 전하기 위해 존재한다.”
When we say that, we do not mean that God is supreme in all things “except in calamities,” “except in war,” “except when ISIS blows up a building or a train,” “except when cancer takes the life of a young mother or when a child is born with profound disabilities.”
제가 ‘모든 일 가운데 절대적인 주권을 가지고 계신 하나님”이라고 말할 때는 천재지변, 전쟁, IS가 빌딩이나 기차를 폭파시킬 때, 암이 젊은 엄마의 목숨을 앗아갈 때, 장애아의 출생 등의 예외를 두고 말하는 것이 아닙니다. 문자 그대로 “모든 일 가운데 절대적인 주권을 가지고 계신 하나님”을 의미하는 것입니다.
There are no “except” clauses in our mission statement. We did not formulate this mission in a rosy world—and then later get surprised and embarrassed by reality. We formulated our mission in the real world of pain and suffering and evil and death. We have seen some very peaceful deaths of believers in Jesus. But we have also seen some very terrible deaths.
우리의 사명선언문 가운데도 예외는 없습니다. 우리는 장밋빛 세상에 대한 착각 속에서 이 사명을 만든 것이 아니었습니다. 우리는 우리의 사명을 고통과 고난과 악과 죽음이 있는 실제 세상 가운데서 만들었습니다. 우리는 예수안에서 아주 평화롭게 죽음을 맞이하는 몇몇의 성도들을 보아왔습니다. 그러나 우리는 또한 끔찍한 죽음을 맞이하는 사람들도 보아왔습니다.
Yes we still affirm: We exist to spread a passion for the supremacy of God in all things for the joy of all peoples through Jesus Christ—all the time. A passion for God’s supremacy—Christ’s supremacy— in all things, all the time.
그럼에도 우리는 여전히 모든 백성이 예수 그리스도로 인한 기쁨을 누릴 수 있도록, 모든 일 가운데 절대적인 주권을 가지고 계신 하나님에 대한 열정을 전하기 위해 존재한다고 확신합니다.
None of us who has lived a few decades—for me that means seven decades—has embraced this mission without trembling. And none of us has pursued this mission for long without tears. We know that the joy we pursue, and the joy we embrace in Jesus, is always interwoven with sorrow. There is no joy unmixed with sorrow in this world for people who care about others. The Bible describes Christ’s servants like this: “[We are] sorrowful, yet always rejoicing.” (2 Corinthians 6:10).
70년을 살아온 저를 포함하여 우리 중에 그 누구도 떨림 없이 이 사명을 받아들일 수는 없었습니다. 우리 중에 그 누구도 눈물 없이는 이 사명을 따라 살지 못했습니다.
우리는 우리가 추구하고 예수 안에서 받아들이는 이 기쁨이 슬픔과 분리되어 있지 않음을 압니다. 타인을 돌아보는 사람들을 위한 슬픔과 섞이지 않은 기쁨은 없습니다.
성경은 그리스도의 종에 대해서 이렇게 묘사합니다. “근심하는 자 같으나 항상 기뻐하고..”(고린도후서 6:10)
“Sorrowful yet always rejoicing.” How can that be? It can be because Christ is supreme over all things forever, but suffering and death remain for a while. Life is not simple. There is pleasure and there is pain. There is sweetness and there is suffering. There is joy and there is misery. There is life and health, and there is disease and death.
“근심하는 자 같으나 항상 기뻐하고” 어떻게 이게 가능한가요? 이것이 가능한 이유는 그리스도께서 영원히 모든 것 위에 최고이시기 때문입니다. 반면에 고난과 죽음은 잠시 동안 머물 뿐입니다. 인생은 단순하지 않습니다. 즐거움이 있고 고통이 있습니다. 달콤함이 있고 괴로움이 있습니다. 기쁨이 있고 비참함이 있습니다. 삶과 건강이 있고 질병과 죽음도 있습니다.
And therefore emotions are not simple. For those who love others, and not just their own comforts, this complexity means that we will rejoice with those who “rejoice and weep with those who weep” (Romans 12:15). And there is always someone we know who is weeping, and someone we know who is rejoicing. And therefore we will learn the secret of “sorrowful yet always rejoicing—and joyful yet always sorrowing.
그렇기에 우리의 감정은 단순하지 않습니다. 주변의 누군가를 사랑하는 사람들은 “즐거워하는 자들과 함께 즐거워하고 우는 자들과 함께 울것”(롬 12:15) 이라는 복합성을 뜻합니다. 우리는 언제나 울고 있는 누군가를 알고 있고 기뻐하고 있는 누군가를 알고 있습니다. 그러므로 우리는 슬픔 가운데서도 항상 기뻐하고 기뻐하는 가운데서도 항상 슬퍼하는 것의 비밀을 배우게 될 것입니다.
Those amazing words—that describe the Christian soul—“sorrowful yet always rejoicing,” mean that suffering remains for a while in this world, but Christ is supreme now and forever. And nothing happens apart from his wise sovereignty. Nothing is meaningless. Everything has a reason and purpose that someday we will see.
이 그리스도인의 정신을 묘사하는 놀라운 표현인 “근심하는 자 같으나 항상 기뻐한다”의 의미는 고난이 이 세상에서 잠시 동안 남아 있지만, 그리스도는 지금부터 영원까지 최고이시며 그 분의 지혜로운 주권으로 벗어나는 그 어떤 일도 일어나지 않는다는 말입니다. 그 무엇도 의미 없는 것은 없습니다. 모든 것은 우리가 언젠가 알게 될 이유와 목적을 가지고 있습니다.
We live in a world of unending calamities.
우리는 끊임없는 재난의 세상 속에서 살고 있습니다.
Natural disasters are relentless in their devastation. Last year flooding in China made millions homeless. A typhoon in North Korea killed hundreds. Earthquakes in Italy killed 200, in Ecuador 300. A Hurricane in the Haiti killed over 500.
자연재해는 무자비한 폐허들을 만들어 냅니다. 작년에 중국에서 일어난 홍수로 인해 수백만의 노숙자들이 생겨났습니다. 북한에서 일어난 태풍으로 수백명이 죽었습니다. 이탈리아와 에콰도르에서 일어난 지진으로 200명, 300명이 죽었습니다. 아이티에서 일어난 허리케인으로 500명이 넘는 사람이 죽었습니다.
Then there are the wars around the world and the threat of terrorism. 18,000 civilians have died in ISIS related conflicts in Iraq in the last two years. 400,000 have died in the six-year Syrian war, 50,000 of which are children.
또한 온 세상에 걸쳐 전쟁과 테러의 위협을 맞이하고 있습니다. 지난 2년 동안 이라크에서 IS가 연루된 충돌로 인해 18,000명의 시민들이 죽었습니다. 시리아 내전으로 인해 6년 동안 40만명이 죽었습니다. 그 중에 5만명이 아이들이었습니다.
Then there are the miseries of 20 million adults and children bought and sold each year as slaves for sex and for forced labor.
또한 매년 2천만명의 성인과 아이들이 성매매와 강제노동을 위한 노예로 사고 팔리는 끔찍한 일이 일어나고 있습니다.
And lest we respond naively in response to these calamities, as though they brought about something unusual, let’s remind ourselves of the obvious and the almost overwhelming fact that over 50,000,000 people die every year in this world. Over 6,000 ever hour. Over 100 every minute. And most of them do not die in ripe old age by sleeping peacefully away into eternity. Most die young. Most die after long struggles with pain. And millions die because of the evil of man against man.
이러한 재앙의 결과에 대해 우리가 아무렇지 않게 반응하지 않도록, 매년 세상에서 5천만명이 넘는 사람들이 죽는다는 분명하면서도 압도적인 사실을 상기해봅시다. 매시간 6천명이 넘는 사람이 죽습니다. 일분마다 100명이 넘는 사람이 죽습니다. 그리고 그들 중 대부분이 인생의 황혼기에 평화롭게 잠들다가 죽는게 아닙니다. 대부분이 젊을 때 죽습니다. 대부분이 고통과의 긴 싸움 끝에 죽습니다. 그리고 사람이 사람을 향해 행한 악함으로 인해 수백만명이 죽습니다.
Calamities shock us only to make more plain what is happening every hour of every of your entire life. Thousands perish in pain and misery. Probably seven or eight thousand people will have died during this worship service. Some of them are screaming out in pain just now as I am speaking and as you sit there in relative comfort.
재난들은 우리 삶의 매순간에 어떠한 일이 일어나고 있는지를 보다 분명하게 만들기 위해서 우리에게 충격을 줍니다. 수천명의 사람들이 고통과 끔찍한 상황 가운데서 죽습니다. 아마도 7천에서 8천명의 사람들이 우리가 이 예배를 드리고 있는 동안에 죽을 것입니다. 그들 중의 일부는 지금, 제가 이렇게 설교하고 있을 때, 여러분들이 그렇게 상대적으로 편안하게 앉아 계실 때, 고통 가운데서 비명을 지르고 있습니다.
If there is to be any Christian joy in this world, along with love, it will be sorrowful joy, broken-hearted joy. What person in this room, who has lived long enough, does not know that the sweetest joys are marked with tears not laugher.
만약 이 세상에서 사랑과 함께 그리스도인의 기쁨이 있다면 그것은 슬픈 기쁨, 마음이 깨어진 기쁨일 것입니다. 이 공간에 계신 충분히 긴 삶을 사신 어떤 분은, 가장 달콤한 기쁨들은 웃음이 아닌 눈물들이 묻어 있다는 것을 모를 것입니다.
So we ask: Why, Lord? Why is the world you made like this? If you are God—if you are the Christ the Son of the living God—why is this world so full of terror and trouble?
그렇기에 우리는 질문합니다. 주님 왜입니까? 왜 세상을 이렇게 만드셨나요? 만약에 당신이 하나님이시라면, 만약 당신이 살아계신 하나님의 아들 그리스도시라면, 도대체 왜 세상이 이토록 공포와 고난으로 가득차 있나요?
Here is what I believe the Bible teaches in answer to this question. I will give two answers that are not the reason such a world exists, and then four answers that are the reasons such world exists. I deal with each very briefly and point you to the Scriptures where you can search God’s word for yourself.
여기에 이 질문에 대한 답으로 성경이 가르치고 있다고 제가 믿고 있는 것이 있습니다. 저는 먼저 세상이 이러한 것에 대한 이유로 두 가지 오답을 이야기하고, 그 후에 네 가지 정답을 이야기하도록 하겠습니다. 저는 각각의 내용들을 매우 간단하게 다루고, 여러분이 하나님의 말씀을 스스로 확인 할 수 있도록 성경 말씀을 제시하겠습니다.
1. The reason this terrorized and troubled world exists is not because God is not in total control.
공포와 고난의 세상이 존재하는 이유는 하나님이 완전하게 통제할 수 없기 때문이 아닙니다.
The Bible is overwhelmingly clear that God governs everything in the universe from the smallest bird to the largest storm.
· “Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? And not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father” (Matthew 10:29).
· “Even winds and sea obey him?” (Matthew 8:27).
· “The lot is cast into the lap, but its every decision is from the Lord” (Proverbs 16:33).
· “The king’s heart is a stream of water in the hand of the Lord; he turns it wherever he will” (Proverbs 21:1 ).
· “Who has spoken and it came to pass, unless the Lord has commanded it?” (Lamentations 3:37 ).
· “Does disaster come to a city, unless the Lord has done it?” (Amos 3:6). “He commands even the unclean spirits, and they obey him” (Mark 1:27).
· “I am God, and there is none like me . . . saying, ‘My counsel shall stand, and I will accomplish all my purpose’” (Isaiah 46:9-10).
성경은 하나님이 아주 작은 새부터 가장 큰 폭풍까지 온 우주의 모든 것을 다스리신다는 것을 압도적으로 분명하게 말합니다.
● “참새 두 마리가 한 앗사리온에 팔리는 것이 아니냐 그러나 너희 아버지께서 허락지 아니하시면 그 하나라도 땅에 떨어지지 아니하리라”(마 10:29)
● “그 사람들이 기이히 여겨 가로되 이 어떠한 사람이기에 바람과 바다도 순종하는고 하더라”(마 8:27)
● “사람이 제비는 뽑으나 일을 작정하기는 여호와께 있느니라”(잠 16:33)
● “왕의 마음이 여호와의 손에 있음이 마치 보의 물과 같아서 그가 임의로 인도하시느니라”(잠 21:1)
● “주의 명령이 아니면 누가 능히 말하여 이루게 하랴”(애 3:37)
● “성 여호와의 시키심이 아니고야 재앙이 어찌 성읍에 임하겠느냐(암 3:6). 더러운 귀신들을 명한즉 순종하는도다 하더라”(막 1:27)
● “나는 하나님이라 나 같은이가 없느니라...이르기를 나의 모략이 설 것이니 내가 나의 모든 기뻐하는 것을 이루리라 하였노라”(사 46:9-10)
There is no person or being in the universe that can thwart the sovereign will of God. Satan is his most powerful enemy and does much evil in the world, but he must first get God’s permission, and none of his actions is outside God’s governance. He never breaks free from God’s leash. (Luke 22:31; Job 2:6-7; 42:11)
온 우주에 하나님의 주권적 의지를 훼방할 수 있는 사람이나 존재는 없습니다. 사탄은 가장 강력한 적이며 많은 악한 일을 하지만 그조차도 먼저 하나님의 허락을 받아야 하며 사탄의 행동 가운데 하나님의 통치를 벗어날 수 있는 것은 없습니다. 사탄은 결코 하나님의 손바닥 안에서 벗어날 수 없습니다.(눅 22:31; 욥 2:6-7; 42:11)
2. The reason this terrorized and troubled world exists is not because God is evil or unjust.
2. 공포와 고난의 세상이 존재하는 이유는 하나님이 악하시거나 정의롭지 않기 때문이 아닙니다.
· “This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all” (1 John 1:5).
· “Good and upright is the LORD” (Psalm 25:8)
· The angels cry before God day and night, “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts; the whole earth is full of his glory!” (Isaiah 6:3).
· And when he does things that seem evil to us, the Bible teaches us to speak to man like this: “As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good” (Genesis 50:20).
· God is not evil, even when he wills that evil come pass. There are good and holy and just purposes in all he does. For those who love him he works all things together for good (Romans 8:28).
● “우리가 저에게서 듣고 너희에게 전하는 소식이 이것이니 곧 하나님은 빛이시라 그에게는 어두움이 조금도 없으시니라”(요일 1:5)
● “여호와는 선하시고 정직하시니”(시 25:8)
● “서로 창화하여 가로되 거룩하다 거룩하다 거룩하다 만군의 여호와여 그 영광이 온 땅에 충만하도다”(사 6:3)
● 하나님이 우리에게 악한 일을 행하시는 것처럼 보일 때, 성경은 사람들에게 이렇게 말하도록 가르칩니다. “당신들은 나를 해하려 하였으나 하나님은 그것을 선으로 바꾸사”(잠 21:1)
● 하나님께서 악이 지나가게 하실 때조차도 그 분은 악하지 않습니다. 그 분이 하시는 모든 일엔 선하고 거룩하고 공의로운 목적이 있습니다. 하나님을 사랑하는 자들에게는 하나님께서 모든 것이 합력하여 선을 이루게 하실 것이기 때문입니다.(롬 8:28)
We turn now from wrong arguments for the existence of evil in the world to the reasons the Bible gives for why there is a world like ours.
우린 이제 이 세상에 악이 존재하는 이유에 대한 이러한 잘못된 논지에서 벗어나 왜 세상이 이와 같은지 성경이 제시하는 이유를 들여다 보겠습니다.
1. The reason this terrorized and troubled world exists is because God planned the history of redemption, and then permitted sin to enter the world through our first parents Adam and Eve.
1. 공포와 고난의 세상이 존재하는 이유는 하나님께서 구속의 역사를 준비하고 계셨고, 우리의 첫 부모가 되는 아담과 하와를 통해 죄가 세상에 들어오는 것을 허락하셨기 때문입니다.
In 2 Timothy 1:9 the apostle Paul said, “[God] saved us and called us to a holy calling, not because of our works but because of his own purpose and grace, which he gave us in Christ Jesus before the ages began.”
디모데후서 1장 9절에서 사도 바울은 말합니다. “하나님이 우리를 구원하사 거룩하신 부르심으로 부르심은 우리의 행위대로 하심이 아니요 오직 자기 뜻과 영원한 때 전부터 그리스도 예수 안에서 우리에게 주신 은혜대로 하심이라”
In other words, before there was any world, or any sin in the world, God planned saving grace through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. That means that God knew Adam would sin. He was already planning how he would save us.
다른 말로 하면, 창세전부터 혹은 죄가 이 세상에 들어오기 전부터, 하나님은 예수 그리스도의 죽으심과 부활하심을 통해 은혜의 구원을 계획하셨습니다. 그 말은 하나님께서는 아담이 죄를 지을 것을 아셨다는 것입니다. 하나님께서는 이미 우리를 어떤 방법으로 구원할지 계획하고 계셨습니다.
Therefore Adam’s sin was part of God’s plan so that God could reveal his mercy and grace and justice and wrath and patience and wisdom in ways that could have never been revealed, if there were no sin, and no Savior, and no history of salvation.
그러므로 아담의 죄는 지금까지 결코 드러낸 적이 없으셨던 하나님의 자비와 은혜와 공의와 분노와 인내와 지혜들을 드러내게 하는 하나님의 계획의 일부분이었던 것입니다. 만약 죄가 없다면, 구원자도 없습니다. 그리고 구원의 역사도 없게 됩니다.
God’s aim in this fallen world is that he be known more fully, because knowing God most fully is what it means for us to be most fully loved. If you turn to Christ, you will discover in God more wonders in this fallen world than could be imagined in any other world.
이 타락한 세상에 대한 하나님의 목표는 하나님을 보다 더 온전하게 알리는 것입니다. 왜냐하면 하나님을 가장 온전하게 아는 것이 가장 온전하게 사랑받는 것을 의미하기 때문입니다. 만약 여러분이 그리스도께로 돌아서면, 여러분은 이 타락한 세상에서도 다른 어떤 세상에서 그려진 것보다 더 놀라운 이적들을 하나님 안에서 발견하게 될 것입니다.
2. The reason this terrorized and troubled world exists is because God subjected the natural world to futility. That is, God put the natural world under a curse so that the physical horrors we see around us in diseases and calamities would become a vivid picture of how horrible sin is. In other words natural evil is a signpost pointing to the horrors of moral evil.
2. 공포와 고난의 세상이 존재하는 이유는 하나님께서 세상에 허무함을 허락하셨기 때문입니다. 그 말은, 하나님께서 세상을 저주 아래 두어 우리 주변의 질병과 재난 등을 통하여 죄가 얼마나 끔찍한 것인지를 선명히 볼 수 있게 하셨다는 것입니다. 다른 말로 하면, 세상의 참상은 도덕적 죄악의 참혹함을 가리키는 하나의 표지판이라는 것입니다.
Listen to Romans 8:18-21,
The sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us. 19 For the creation waits with eager longing for the revealing of the sons of God. 20 For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of him who subjected it, in hope 21 that the creation itself will be set free from its bondage to decay and obtain the freedom of the glory of the children of God.
로마서 8:18~21을 보시겠습니다.
18 생각건대 현재의 고난은 장차 우리에게 나타날 영광과 족히 비교할 수 없도다
19피조물의 고대하는 바는 하나님의 아들들의 나타나는 것이니
20피조물이 허무한데 굴복하는 것은 자기 뜻이 아니요 오직 굴복케 하시는 이로 말미암음이라
21그 바라는 것은 피조물도 썩어짐의 종노릇 한데서 해방되어 하나님의 자녀들의 영광의 자유에 이르는 것이니라
In other words, God subjected the creation to futility and bondage to decay and misery and death. He disordered the natural world because of the disorder of the moral and spiritual world—that is because of sin. In our present condition blinded by sin and dishonoring God every day, we cannot see how repugnant sin is. Hardly anyone in the world feels the horror that our sin is.
다른 말로 하면, 하나님께서는 피조물을 허무한데 굴복하고 종노릇 하여 부패와 고통과 죽음에 이르도록 하셨습니다. 하나님께서는 도덕적, 영적 세계의 무질서로 인하여 세상을 무질서하게 두셨습니다. 바로 죄 때문입니다. 우리의 현재 상태는 죄와 매일 하나님께 영광을 돌리지 않음으로 말미암아 장님이 되었습니다. 죄가 얼마나 혐오스러운 것인지 보지 못합니다. 이 세상의 누구도 우리의 죄가 얼마나 끔찍한 것인지 느끼지 못합니다.
But O how we feel our physical pain! Physical pain is God’s trumpet blast to tell us that something is dreadfully wrong. Diseases and deformities are God’s portraits in the physical realm of what sin is like in the spiritual realm. That is true even though some of the most godly people bear those deformities. Calamities are God’s previews of what sin deserves and will one day receive in judgment a thousand times worse. They are warnings.
그렇지만 우리는 우리의 육체적 고통은 얼마나 잘 느낍니까! 육체적 고통은 무언가가 끔찍하게 잘못되었다는 것을 알려주는 하나님의 나팔소리입니다. 질병과 기형은 영적 영역에서의 죄가 물리적 영역에서는 어떠한 지를 보여주는 하나님의 초상화입니다. 그것은 가장 신실한 몇몇의 사람들이 기형아를 출산했다하더라도 진실입니다. 재난은 죄가 어떠한 대우를 받아 마땅한지 그리고 언젠가 천 배로 심판을 받게 될 것을 보여주는 하나님의 예고편입니다. 재난은 경고입니다.
O that we could all see and feel how repugnant, how offensive, how abominable it is to treat our Maker with contempt, to ignore him, and distrust him, and demean him, and give him less attention in our hearts than we do tires on our cars.
오, 우리는 모두 얼마나 불쾌하며, 얼마나 공격적이며, 얼마나 끔찍하게 우리의 창조주를 멸시하고 있는지 보고 느낄 수 있습니다. 하나님을 무시하고, 신뢰하지 않고, 비하하며 우리 마음은 그 분을 향해서 우리 차의 타이어를 바꾸는 것만큼의 신경도 쓰지 않습니다.
We must see this, and feel this, or we will not turn to Christ for salvation from the ugliness of sin. We may want to escape the penalty of sin. But will we see and hate the ugliness of sin, if we do not see the ugliness of its image in physical pain?
우리는 이것을 보아야 합니다. 느껴야 합니다. 그렇지 않으면 죄의 추악함으로부터 구원 받기 위해 그리스도에게까지 돌아가지 않을 것입니다. 우리는 죄의 대가로부터 벗어나기 원할겁니다. 그러나 만약 우리가 육체적(물리적) 고통에 담겨있는 죄의 추악한 모습을 보지 않는다면 그 추악함을 직면하고 미워하게 될까요?
Therefore God, mercifully, shouts to us in our sicknesses and pain and calamities: Wake up! Sin is like this! Sin leads to things like this. (See Revelation 9:20; 16:9, 11) The natural world full of horrors that wake us up from dream world of thinking sin is no big deal. It is a horrifically big deal.

We see it in the New Testament and the Old Testament. The apostle Paul says, “I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ” (Philippians 3:8). The superior worth of Christ is magnified because in all Paul’s losses, he experiences Christ as all-satisfying.

Famines, pestilence, persecution—these happen so that the world might see in the followers of Jesus, and discover for themselves, that God made us for himself and that he is our “exceeding joy” (Psalm 43:4), and at his right hand are pleasures for every more (Psalm 16:11). The losses of life are meant to wean us off the poisonous pleasures of the world and lure us to Christ our everlasting joy.

4. Finally, the reason this terrorized and troubled world exists is to make a place for Jesus Christ, the Son of God, to suffer and die four our sins. The reason there is terror is so that Christ would be terrorized. The reason there is trouble so that Christ could be troubled. The reason there is pain is so that Christ could feel pain. This is the world God prepared for the suffering and death of his Son. This is the world where God made the best display of his love in the suffering of his Son.
